Installation
Orynt3D is a local application to help organise 3D models for printing. Your model library is likely in one of 4 places (or possibly all of them!), and you have one or two specific setup requirements.
Storage Options
After going through the the installation as normal, you will need to tell Orynt3D where your files are. Depending on where your files are there are some settings that you need to consider to make best use of Orynt3D.
Local files
The defaults will likely work just fine for you.
Local network / NAS storage
Increase the sizes of your Archive Cache Size and Thumbnail Cache Size, to take advantage of local caching.
Removable drives
Set your Thumbnail Cache size to unlimited, and ensure you scroll through your library at least once before you disconnect your removable drive. This will ensure the thumbnails are all cached and will appear without having your removable drive attached.
Deployment options
While Orynt3D was designed as a single-user, local-first application, it can be tuned to work in a few other deployment scenarios.
Single-user
Congratulations! This is what Orynt3D was made for. No additional tuning needed :)
Single-user, multi-system (local network)
To run Orynt3D on multiple machines using the same shared library:
- Optimise your settings as per Local network / NAS storage above.
- Ensure your library is mounted the same on both systems (eg: Z:/Models/)
- Move the
Cover Image Pathnext to your models (eg: Z:/Covers/) - Copy your Collection settings from one machine to the other with
Export User Data ...andRestore User Data ... - You will need to rescan on both systems whenever the library or scan configuration changes.
Using multiple systems is an advanced usage of Orynt3D and while we do our best to support it, there are some limitations.
Limitations:
- Collections are stored with the application locally, not with the model library. If you don't copy the collection data between systems your models will still record their Collection, but you will not be able to see those collections.
- Using different operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux) on different nodes is an untested configuration, and while most things should work, some path-specific things will not transfer well.
Multi-user (local network)
Orynt3D doesn't support multiple people using the same library separately.
If you're happy to share your library with another person, you can be able to set up the single-user, multi-system deployment above. You may be able to take advantage of the fact that collections are individual to provide a limited amount of personalisation, however scan configuration, tags and attributes are stored with the model, and both systems will need to be rescanned on changes.
Remote network / internet
This configuration is not supported.
Hosted
We don't currently have the application to support this deployment, but it is coming soon! Watch out for Orynt3D Server ...
